Not only do we adore the Jamie Young Company for fine hand craftsmanship, quality materials and strong design, we also admire their environmental consciousness as they utilize renewable resources, recycled boxes and packaging materials. This lamp is made from mercury glass, a glass that was first made in the 1840s and patented in England in 1849. In those days mercury glass or silvered glass, as it was sometimes called, was doubled walled glass with a coating of silver coloring on the inside. This gave it the appearance of silver and was a more affordable product than real silver in the 19th century. Mercury glass lamps by Jamie Young are not made with mercury, however the same look is achieved. Lamp has a 3-way socket to allow for brightness variation. Table lamps are wired with 8' clear cords and have silver sockets and switches.
