Announcing Frills and Fun

Fun and Frilly Bedding

Ever had a token, memento, or piece of adored clothing that evokes an instant memory or mood? Often times one of the most coveted aspects of design is the ability to replicate those same feelings through the decor of a room. Bedding can be notorious for influencing your mood the moment you lay eyes on it, and certainly the moment you touch it. Some bedding says “Come hither and curl up”, and some does not.

The light and airy colors of the new additions to our bedding and bath line speak volumes in the language of summer. Citrusy hues paired with crisp whites gives your boudoir an “indoor/outdoor” look…you can almost feel the sun shining in and the breeze blowing through the open window. Playful patterns and just the right amount of ruffles leave you feeling casually feminine and alluring. And let that beachy bohemian vibe flow right into your bathroom accent pieces like shower curtains, bath mats and even laundry bags that will keep you looking forward to laundry day. Seashells, votive candles and grains of sand not included, but daydreams and tranquil moments are on the house.

Top Baby Gifts

As our options for clever, quality and uniquely themed baby products expand by the millisecond, so does our indecisiveness as to what to buy for that special baby gift. Some products are tried and true staples, and others are brand spanking new and flying off the shelves. Time to share the wealth.

Tried and True

Barefoot Dreams Take Me Home Set

Brand Spanking New

The enthusiasm that has erupted around these pettiskirts has been as tremendous as the layers of fabric found in their skirts. Sizing goes all the way from newborn to a 4-6, so big sis can join in the fun as well.

Something for Dad

With Dad’s big day rapidly approaching what could be more appropriate than a quick and easy recipe for some family friendly (and shhhhh – good for you) meatballs. A really tasty meatball can be eaten alone, without sauce or pasta. But of course, either one is a great compliment to this dish. And the great thing about this recipe is that you can easily increase or decrease the ingredient quantity based on how many you would like to make. Oh and let’s not forget the part about the hidden vegetablesnot a child nor picky eating father will be the wiser. Enjoy!

Greek Meatballs – makes approximately 8 good sized meatballs

submitted by Melissa Webster

  • 1.5 lbs of fresh ground beef (ideally grass-fed)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup of bread crumbs (or less depending on how you like the consistency of your meatballs)
  • 6 oz. of Feta cheese
  • 2 cups of fresh leaf Spinach to taste, torn into bits
  • I highly recommend the all purpose seasoning, Magic Dust, from the Hitching Post Restaurant but sea salt & pepper to taste will work just fine.

Combine ground beef, egg, and bread crumbs in a large bowl and mix with handsold fashioned, but truly the best way in this instance. Gradually add bits of feta cheese and leaf spinach depending on the palate of the crowd you are serving. (Spinach can even be sauteed if you’d really like to boost the iron content without making the veggie content as obvious.) Mix well. Shape into roughly 1.5 inch diameter balls, disguising the spinach in the depths of each meatball as much as possible. Cook on medium/high heat in a frying pan, rotating on each side until brown and meatballs are firm (about 15 minutes.) Serve while hot, add pasta and sauce if desired, and cheers to Dad!

Baby JaR, oh Baby JaRhow you have captured our hearts!

This line just keeps getting better and better with each clever new pattern and color pallet that gets introduced. A fresh L.A. based design duo of two sisters, Jessica and Rachel (hence the capital R in Baby JaR), who wanted to create fun and functional products are who we have to thank for these lively burp cloths, bibs, and blankets. And although their patterns are stand out, it’s the details that really make the difference with each Baby JaR product. Delight in the unique trim and soft to the touch fabrics. And for a product that can be a bit of a challenge to find, Baby JaR’s receiving blankets are some of the most creative and adorable around. Even if bold patterns are normally not your thing, Baby JaR has a smart way of softening the look with complimentary soft solid colors that not only work to tone down the look but allow you to coordinate with so much more. Baby JaR – charming Mom’s across the country and back again!

Journeys of a lifetime; journeys to be shared

australia31There seems to be nothing more fitting as we enjoy the month of June than to share an amazing beach-ridden experience in the Gold Coast of Australia. Original and notable design is always worth sharing, and with pleasure I bring you an Aussie gem. In the midst of our travels we stumbled upon a darling café along the Harbor for breakfast, or “brekkie” as it is affectionately called in Australia. Not only was the brekkie poignantly noteworthy, but so was the café décor.

Brumbles is full of charm and inexpensive ideas to create your own beach inspired haven. In keeping with the roots of this converted cottage the personal touches are endless – tea lights, fresh flowers, French music, and even a reading room for guests that wish to linger. Outdoor and indoor tables were covered with random cut mosaic tiles with simple Bumble Bees inlayed for their branding. Each room had its own sense of personality, one striking memory being a wall with hand drawn geometric squares reminiscent of picture frames, and simple snapshots of frequent guests appliquéd like wallpaper. Imagine my surprise and delight when I noticed some all too familiar decorative white wall plates hanging in a private back room… they enchanted the space. Inexpensive crisp white paper mache’ lights hung from the ceiling and streamlined Danish style furniture filled the room. And amongst all these creative decorating elements – let us not forget that shells were in abundance!

If you are ever in the breathtaking Gold Coast of Australia, be sure to make your way over to Brumbles for an enhanced coastal experience. Relaxing ambiance, great service, fresh and healthy food, and genuine design vibe that will warm your soul… music to any traveler’s ears.

Mix and Match made in heaven

serena-and-lily-mix-and-match1With limitless possibilities, Serena and Lily has launched their new Mix n’ Match collection of bedding. A relatively new direction for this designer that has won our admiration for its fresh new use of color and playful sense of flexibility. Clean, crisp patterns in multiple color-ways give you the freedom to design your boudoir with your own personal touch. The light and airy feminine sets are ideal for those of us who love to switch out patterns and colors seasonally without having to redecorate an entire room. You can choose from a snappy green, punchy pink, delicate pink, and sweet lilac. The masculine sets have the brilliant capacity to allow you to mix and match colors and themes! General genres like “All-American” can work as either a nautical theme or even translate to a western inspired theme. Can’t get much more All-American than that – and just in time for a festive 4th of July! And in addition the good ole’ red, white and blue, Serena and Lily infused rustic greens, oranges, bright blue and breezy yellow into the color pallet – making the Mix n’ Match Collection a unique choice for just about everyone.
