Name: Christiane Lemieux, Founder of DwellStudio
Tell us a little about your background. I have a degree in fashion design from the Parson’s School of Design, and worked for GAP and Isaac Mizrahi before falling in love with and transitioning to home design. I loved and still love the idea of marrying beautiful fabric to a piece of furniture! After working in the field for about a year, I founded DwellStudio in 2000.
What role does fashion play at DwellStudio? We are a fashion-driven company and spend a lot of time studying the runways for forward-thinking colors and details. I’m also inspired by my travels. When I travel, I immerse myself into the culture to discover what it has new to offer our designs.
What trends are you noticing? We’ve really been inspired by the richness of some of the things we’ve been seeing. The reds and oxbloods, the handwork and textures. There’s a real yearning now for things that feel special, rather than mass-produced.
What inspired DwellStudio’s fall styles? We like to have signature colors. For fall, we mixed in reds, camels and taupes, along with the navies, reds, yellows and oranges we saw on the runways. The best part about our collections from season to season is that there’s continuity throughout, from bedding to rugs. We build our lines so that new styles can be incorporated easily.

Describe the inspiration behind your fabulous rugs. This season we wanted our rug designs to be versatile but add design and luxe to any room. We added gorgeous materials like rayon for a chic yet durable shine. Also, the patterns are graphic enough to make a statement but work in almost any space.
Your top 3 favorite products from the fall collection are… I am in love with our new mini stripe rug. It is an amazing chic basic that works in every room. I also love our new Eva pillow. The hand crewelwork elevates the geometric print, and the quality and texture really make this pillow. Lastly, I just ordered the Modern Border in Ink for myself. I love the simplicity and graphic quality of the black and off-white and the quality of the sheeting is phenomenal. It is from one of the best mills.
Any quick tips for adding fresh fall style into the home? Yes, a few! Pillows are an inexpensive way to layer in fall style, texture and color. I also love throws that are warm and cozy and add that layered feeling. And scented candles. The sense of smell is oftentimes forgotten, but candles in red currant or other seasonal scents feel so good this time of year.
