It’s Kate Landers here to share with you a honeycomb-inspired “new hive” housewarming party. One of the big trends in graphic and interior design this year is the honeycomb pattern. I loved having the opportunity to incorporate such a timeless, nature-inspired pattern into a very current look for a styled event.

You can incorporate a honeycomb pattern at your next event by recreating some of the details from our shoot:

1. Honeycomb Event Themes: The honeycomb pattern works beautifully with bees and hives. In addition to a housewarming “new hive” party, it works perfectly for a “What will it bee?” gender reveal party or baby shower, an “I’ll bee yours, you’ll bee mine” engagement party, or a bridal shower.

2. The Honeycomb Pattern: I chose to incorporate the honeycomb pattern in all printable items (from invitations and dessert tags to the labels and the backdrop), the glassware (note the honeycomb design in the glasses of sweet tea) as well as the desserts themselves (the hexagon cookies with a hand-iced honeycomb pattern). Feel free to add honeycomb printed table linens or favor bags for even more of this fabulous design at your event!

3. Hives and Bees: I loved incorporating hives and bees to accompany the honeycomb pattern. You will note edible hives and bees throughout my dessert table. Even the party favors featured a hand-iced hive cookie to match the graphic on the printable party items. I also loved the custom-framed “Welcome to our new hive” sign, which served as a lovely decoration on the mantle.

4. Don’t Forget The Honey! Wooden honey dippers are the perfect adornment for glasses of sweet tea. Honey sticks are beautiful on display and perfectly sweet when added to guests’ tea. A fresh piece of honeycomb looks lovely when displayed on a small dessert pedestal and can be enjoyed by many. It serves as a sweet reminder of the original source of this gorgeous design that we love seeing everywhere, from pillows and rugs to handmade chocolates and soap.

5. Fresh Florals: We all know the important role bees play with pollenating our flowers, and I cannot think of a better nod to their hard work than gorgeous arrangements of your favorite blooms. For our shoot I selected a large arrangement of spring flowers in a soft yellow and white color palette. I even opted for a large, fresh peony as the cake topper, offering a light and natural feeling to the dessert table.
