Hey guys! I am Abigail Spach, a North Carolina style blogger at #SouthHaus, where I write about decor and design. I am so excited to guest blog with Layla Grayce about some of my favorite interior design trends of 2016 and let y’all into my little art world of inspirations and design that is currently on my radar.

As a graphic designer, I am always looking to be inspired by the outside world around me. All art and all creative endeavors lend themselves to each other. Fashion follows architecture, which follows art, which follows interiors and music, and on and on. They all are this giant circle that is constantly feeding off of each other to create their own creative catalyst. We can totes get into a really deep art talk, but I would love, love, LOVE it if I could share with you guys some of my favorite inspirations and amazing decor from Layla Grayce that recreates any look that you see here.
When I start designing for work or play, I automatically create mood boards with Pinterest finds. I have so many secret boards that are product developments, fun typefaces, or silly quotes. I really enjoy using that social network as a place to brainstorm the next creation. I suggest everyone use either Pinterest or Tumblr to create digital mood boards! It really helps bring looks together organically.
One of my favorite recent Pinterest finds was Kourtney Kardashian’s nursery for Penelope. It was so chic and so PINK. She is my favorite Kardashian because she’s a mama and a great designer, but also she rocked (knocked?) this nursery out of the park!
I wanted to create a more flamingo inspired nursery, so I brought in a more beachy feel using blues and greens. Pinks and nudes are the THANG this year. I’m telling you first that blush and bashful will most definitely be in the 2016/2017 interiors shows. A great way to offset the boldness of pink and gold is to bring as many natural elements as possible. Think: agate, grass rugs, and palm or banana leaf plants.
Minimal glam is always going to be in style in my book. Black, check. Gold, check. Marble, check. See how this is glamoured up with Layla Grayce accessories and furniture! Dark tile and bold cabinets are offset by sleek marble and concrete. Play up the glam factor by using gold hardware and accessories.
If Wes Anderson had created Mad Men, this would have been the set of the nursery. I know, I know I put two nurseries in this lineup. But it’s too easy to style around and SO chic. The seventies just got a facelift, y’all! Navy is the timeless standard of classic upscale trends. You’ll see many navy-hued walls as the trends go to the dark side. Deep navy and blues are the newest decor trend for all rooms and all decor styles.

Formal, yet comfortable. This living room is right on target for the dark greens trending for this year. Dark isn’t so bad. It looks quite rich and inviting, no? Vintage inspirations leave a rich color scheme and textures that complement. Layer luxe velvets, with soft wool and gold accents. I’m needing a mystery novel to read right about now… all i’m missing is a magnifying glass.

Pastels came around the past couple of years in the interiors world and they are here to stay. Pinks and nudes are in style, but paired with other mint and robins egg hued accessories leaves a mod coastal vibe. Paint your walls a nice light nude or pink and place the bird wallpaper on an accent wall to give a nice contrasted statement. The rug pulls this look together seamlessly.
