My favorite family holiday tradition is… Going back as far as I can remember, my parents would find a family in need and assign each of us to one of the children. After learning the age and gender, we would shop for presents for our child, then together as a family we would wrap the gifts with great care and bake plates of cookies. On Christmas Eve we would leave the gifts anonymously at their door, ringing the doorbell before dashing away. For me this is the true spirit of Christmas giving that I hope to pass on to my own children.

My favorite family holiday tradition is… My mom purchased puzzles every Thanksgiving weekend – 5000 piece puzzles that our normally loud family would circle round, intensely unified with one end purpose in mind, to finish that beastly puzzle… together. As a teenager, I couldn’t wait to get out of it, but now I realize it was about time spent together and shared moments. Today, even separated by the continent, my Mom and I are so lucky to rely on “Words With Friends”, keeping our gaming tradition going strong!

My favorite family holiday tradition is… I would have to say my favorite holiday tradition is Christmas Crackers at the holiday table. They originated in England and I was first introduced to them while we were living in Australia. Sometimes referred to as “poppers” they are wrapped in foil and almost look like giant candy. Inside, they always have a paper hat, joke or riddle and a small toy or trinket. They POP! when you pull them apart. We all put the hats on and take turns telling our jokes. Something about seeing a bunch of adults in silly paper hats, makes kids laugh. My kids are nearly grown now, but they still look forward to it.
