Q&A with Michelle Koffler, Director of Marketing and Sales

Layla Grayce: What is your name, title, and how long have you been with Bella Notte?
Michelle Koffler: 
I’m Michelle Koffler, Director of Marketing and Sales. I have worked for Bella Notte for two years and have known the owners for 27 years!

LG: When and why did you decide to showcase your brand on Layla Grayce?
MK: Layla Grayce has carried our line since 2005 (nearly 10 years!). We were drawn to the website overall, the ease of use, and the fact that the luxury experience Layla Grayce provides users closely mirrors the mission of our brand. We also feel the other brands on the site like Ro Sham Beaux and Eloquence harmonize well with Bella Notte. In fact, we share the same customers.

LG: How has your brand and its style/offerings changed over the years?
MK: Bella Notte has always been soft and romantic with a vintage feel. More and more, we are incorporating looks that have a timeless aesthetic, and our colors have really softened as well. With every year, we become more confident and versatile in our manufacturing process to ensure the construction of each piece has more detail, and we are pushing the way we use texture and tone. Our designer Kathleen McCoy began with a background in fashion, so Bella Notte is notably open to translating trends, willing to adapt and try new things, move out the old, and push the boundaries of home textiles while maintaining our signature collections. If we keep the common theme of relaxed luxury and a bit of romance, we find that each new introduction fits seamlessly with the tried and true favorites.

LG:  Where do you see your brand 10 years from now?
MK: 
Bella Notte would like to see more of an International following. Our fabrics are sourced globally which we feel gives the line an adaptable aesthetic that we could see in Paris, Australia, Korea, and beyond. We feel strongly about always providing vintage-inspired heirloom pieces and staying consistent with the quality our customers expect from us. We have retailers that have carried our line for 18 years, and they have been willing to mature with Bella Notte, which we expect to see for years to come.

LG: What is your favorite memory working with Layla Grayce over the past 10 years?
MK: I was able to visit Layla Grayce’s warehouse with our rep, Laurie Larson, before Layla Grayce moved to its current new location. We had a design meeting on the stairwell! I felt a kindred spirit, as Bella Notte is based out of a small warehouse as well, and we pride ourselves in creating a lot out of a little. I was able to talk about upcoming introductions and get feedback from key stakeholders, which always means a lot to me. I was impressed by the knowledge and kindness of the customer service staff and excited by being behind the scenes. Tiffany showed us photos of her kiddies dressed up in the most adorable 1920s style outfits! Because we are a family owned business, connecting with our customers on a personal level means a lot.

Layla Grayce: What is your name, title, and how long have you been with Newport Cottages?
Pockets Alvarez: 
I’m Pockets Alvarez, the Founder and CEO of Newport Cottages. My wife and I founded the company in 1999. We’re now in our 15th year and still love what we do

LG: When and why did you decide to showcase your brand on Layla Grayce?
PA: We met Layla Grayce co-founders Wendy and Tiffany when they first launched Layla Grayce 10 years ago. We were so impressed by their big dreams and their energetic entrepreneurial spirit. From the beginning, we noticed that Layla Grayce was focused on quality products and striving for top-notch customer service. It was definitely something we wanted to be a part of.

LG: How has your brand and its style/offerings changed over the years?
PA: Newport Cottages was created from a desire to offer artisan crafted, USA-made furniture. Our first collections were designed with a very traditional, coastal cottage feel: hand-turned posts, inlaid panels, and bead-board designs. Over the years, our collections have evolved to include some transitional and contemporary designs. However, we remain true to the founding principles of quality hardwood construction and continue to manufacture right here in Southern California.

LG:  Where do you see your brand 10 years from now?
PA: 
I see Newport Cottages expanding into other rooms of the home, beyond providing great furniture for nurseries and children’s rooms. We would also include accent pieces, occasional tables, and other furnishings made with the same handcrafted, USA-made quality for which we are known. Our pieces are currently distributed throughout the USA and in select countries abroad. I would love to be able to offer our furniture to more countries around the world.

LG: What is your favorite memory working with Layla Grayce over the past 10 years?
PA: We have so many great memories with Layla Grayce, but perhaps what stands out the most is the time we first met and comparing that time to where we all are now. We have seen our families grow with the addition of babies. We’ve shared stories of our children, while at the same time finding the energy and strength to grow our businesses together. The past 10 years have been my favorite memory so far, and I look forward to another 10.

Layla Grayce: What is your name, title, and how long have you been with Pine Cone Hill?
Annie Selke: I’m Annie Selke, Founder and CEO. I’ve been with the company since the beginning!

LG: When and why did you decide to showcase your brand on Layla Grayce?
AS: Tiffany and Wendy contacted Pine Cone Hill while Layla Grayce was still in its infancy, and from our initial conversations, it was obvious that they had a clear vision for their new brand. This made the decision to showcase our products with them very easy.

LG: How has your brand and its style/offerings changed over the years?
AS: We’ve expanded our selections dramatically since the beginning while staying true to style-driven design and superior quality. We also introduced Dash & Albert rugs to the world a little over 10 years ago along with Fresh American—a collection of sassy yet practical home items, with a focus on indoor/outdoor use in 2013.

LG:  Where do you see your brand 10 years from now?
AS: I envision making more homes happy with products that stand the test of time. In early 2015, we will be launching a luxury brand that will include Exquisite Italian/European bed linen, gorgeous wool, and silk carpets and upholstered headboards. We have also recently introduced Dash and Albert to Europe, and we plan to expand globally.

LG: What is your favorite memory working with Layla Grayce over the past 10 years?
AS: It’s hard to think of a memory that isn’t up there as a favorite. Tiffany and Wendy have been such positive partners to work with over the years, and we always have more than a few laughs when we get together. One that stands out is when I had the opportunity to host them for a visit at our offices in the Berkshires in Massachusetts. It was lovely to show them our offices and have them meet everyone involved in the process at Pine Cone Hill. My dog Dash fell in love with them—he always did favor gorgeous blondes!

Q&A with Jamie Young; President

Layla Grayce: What is your name, title, and how long have you been with Jamie Young?
Jamie Young: I’m Jamie Young, the President of the company. My husband, David Jeter, and I started the company in 1997.

LG: When and why did you decide to showcase your brand on Layla Grayce?
JY: We began working with Layla Grayce in 2007. The Layla Grayce founders were very persistent with us. At the time, online was just starting out, and we were cautious about that area of business. They really sold us on the idea and have done a fabulous job ever since. We love being associated with them because they have a great online presence with a strong personality and brand. Layla Grayce offers a curated collection of beautiful things for the home that they present gorgeously online and we are proud to be a part of it!

LG: How has your brand and its style/offerings changed over the years?
JY: Jamie Young Co. has really grown its categories. We are still a core lighting line, but now, we have so many great additions to the home including mirrors, accessories, pillows, and occasional furniture. Our look continues to evolve and so do the materials we work in. We stay current and meaningful to today’s design aesthetic while maintaining an eclectic mix and a wide variety of looks to offer our customers. We also continue to have the best lampshades in the business!

LG:  Where do you see your brand 10 years from now?
JY: Jamie Young Co. will continue to be a full lifestyle line where customers will be able to have a larger selection of every category for the home! We see our brand having greater depth in lighting, accessories, and furniture, and we can’t wait!

LG: What is your favorite memory working with Layla Grayce over the past 10 years?
JY: Every time we get together with the owners and collaborate on what will work for them each season from our collection, we feel inspired. Over the years we have had great collaborations with Layla Grayce! One of our favorites was a “Giveaway and Q&A with Jamie Young!” The campaign gave customers a little peek behind the scenes into the Jamie Young brand, which we love!

Q&A with Bob Ulrich; VP Sales

Layla Grayce: What is your name, title, and how long have you been with Currey & Co?
Bob Ulrich: I’m Bob Ulrich, VP of Sales. I’ve been with Currey & Company for 20 years.

LG: When and why did you decide to showcase your brand on Layla Grayce?
BU: I believe we began around 2005 with Layla Grayce. Unlike most internet retailers, Layla Grayce was interested in having a “point of view.” I really liked their concept of “merchandising” our product on their site.

LG: How have your brand and its style/offerings changed over the years?
BU: We are always changing. Outdoor furniture is at the root of our business 25 years ago (under the name GardenSource). Our initial designs were part of a significant licensing program (Bob Timberlake, Historic Charleston, Smithsonian, Winterthur). While these licensing programs were successful, they were also limiting in terms of design and product categories. Robert and Suzy Currey decided to expand the offering and create what is now Currey & Company. We quickly began to develop our “own” designs and expanded our product categories to include lighting and furniture. We continue today to evolve and expand our product offering to include lighting, furniture, upholstery, mirrors, and rugs. Within those categories, we continually strive to be on trends in style and color.

LG:  Where do you see your brand 10 years from now?
BU: Tough to answer, but I believe we are on the right path to grow our product offerings, people, and remain relevant to our industry.

LG: What is your favorite memory working with Layla Grayce over the past 10 years?
BU: I would say the people that run Layla Grayce have been truly wonderful partners and couldn’t be more professional and easy to do business with over the years!
