Q&A with Owner and Creative Director, Samantha McClure

Layla Grayce: What is your name, title, and how long have you been with Redford House?
Samantha McClure: 
My name is Samantha McClure. I’m the owner and creative director of Redford House. I founded Redford House eighteen years ago in 1996.

LG: When and why did you decide to showcase your brand on Layla Grayce?
SM: I met Tiffany and Wendy at the High Point Market in 2004, when they were just starting out. They came to the Redford House showroom to look at our furniture line and were the first online furniture retailer to talk to us about selling our product on the Internet. I was very impressed with the two of them creating an online furniture retail start-up. I had a great rapport with Tiffany and Wendy, and I hoped for the best. Ten years later, Layla Grayce is one of the best partners Redford House works with.

LG: How has your brand and its style/offerings changed over the years?
SM: Our first catalog predominantly offered distressed cottage furniture, but our product line has evolved into a more transitional design vision. In the beginning, the Redford House line was inspired by French antique, New England coastal, and country styles. We started with very traditional design roots. Over the years, there has been a strong revival of mid-century modern furniture. We’ve had a lot of fun evolving with furniture trends and exploring transitional design principles.

LG:  Where do you see your brand 10 years from now?
SM: It’s an honor to be in the great industry of furniture manufacturing, and Redford House will always strive to be respected and relevant. I can’t say exactly where Redford House will be since we focus on the present, and we live and design in the moment. Furniture design is similar to other art forms in that you often know where your inspiration comes from, but you don’t always know where it’s going to take you. The future is a wide-open canvas, an adventure, and I’m excited to see where it will take Redford House.

LG: What is your favorite memory working with Layla Grayce over the past 10 years?
SM: My favorite moment was our first meeting with Tiffany and Wendy in the High Point Market. I really liked them both. Ten years later, Layla Grayce is the model for online retail success. Tiffany and Wendy deserve all the success they have enjoyed. Everyone on the Layla Grayce team has been great to work with!

Q&A with Jane Boatman Geller and Greg Geller

Layla Grayce: What is your name, title, and how long have you been with Boatman Geller?
Jane Boatman Geller: 
I’m Jane Boatman Geller, founder, owner and designer of Boatman Geller. I started the company in the fall of 2001.
Greg Geller: 
I’m Greg Geller, President of The Boatman Group.

LG: When and why did you decide to showcase your brand on Layla Grayce?
Greg: Layla Grayce came to us requesting the brand in 2004.

LG: How has your brand and its style/offerings changed over the years?
Jane: We have diversified our products lines a lot. We have expanded from paper to personalized home, desk, and gift products. The look of our design has shifted over the years, but at its core, it remains a classic plus preppy combo.

LG:  Where do you see your brand 10 years from now?
Jane: The fun part of having a look that is slightly trendy, yet always classic, is that it designs itself in a lot of ways. I think our look in 10 years will be similar to what we have now, just fresher (of course!). The biggest changes will likely be on the production side of things as more and more surfaces are available to personalize. I hope to explore soft goods (like pillows!) in the near future!

LG: What is your favorite memory working with Layla Grayce over the past 10 years?
Jane: My favorite memory is reaching out and talking to Wendy on her cell phone in Atlanta and getting a better understanding of the business, how it was started (GREAT story of two Southern California girls!), and how the other sites work together. Then, I found out we were going to be at the Atlanta Gift Mart.
Greg: Meeting Wendy and her team at the show in January of 2010 and the business partnership that has evolved from there is my favorite memory.

Q&A with Michelle Koffler, Director of Marketing and Sales

Layla Grayce: What is your name, title, and how long have you been with Bella Notte?
Michelle Koffler: 
I’m Michelle Koffler, Director of Marketing and Sales. I have worked for Bella Notte for two years and have known the owners for 27 years!

LG: When and why did you decide to showcase your brand on Layla Grayce?
MK: Layla Grayce has carried our line since 2005 (nearly 10 years!). We were drawn to the website overall, the ease of use, and the fact that the luxury experience Layla Grayce provides users closely mirrors the mission of our brand. We also feel the other brands on the site like Ro Sham Beaux and Eloquence harmonize well with Bella Notte. In fact, we share the same customers.

LG: How has your brand and its style/offerings changed over the years?
MK: Bella Notte has always been soft and romantic with a vintage feel. More and more, we are incorporating looks that have a timeless aesthetic, and our colors have really softened as well. With every year, we become more confident and versatile in our manufacturing process to ensure the construction of each piece has more detail, and we are pushing the way we use texture and tone. Our designer Kathleen McCoy began with a background in fashion, so Bella Notte is notably open to translating trends, willing to adapt and try new things, move out the old, and push the boundaries of home textiles while maintaining our signature collections. If we keep the common theme of relaxed luxury and a bit of romance, we find that each new introduction fits seamlessly with the tried and true favorites.

LG:  Where do you see your brand 10 years from now?
MK: 
Bella Notte would like to see more of an International following. Our fabrics are sourced globally which we feel gives the line an adaptable aesthetic that we could see in Paris, Australia, Korea, and beyond. We feel strongly about always providing vintage-inspired heirloom pieces and staying consistent with the quality our customers expect from us. We have retailers that have carried our line for 18 years, and they have been willing to mature with Bella Notte, which we expect to see for years to come.

LG: What is your favorite memory working with Layla Grayce over the past 10 years?
MK: I was able to visit Layla Grayce’s warehouse with our rep, Laurie Larson, before Layla Grayce moved to its current new location. We had a design meeting on the stairwell! I felt a kindred spirit, as Bella Notte is based out of a small warehouse as well, and we pride ourselves in creating a lot out of a little. I was able to talk about upcoming introductions and get feedback from key stakeholders, which always means a lot to me. I was impressed by the knowledge and kindness of the customer service staff and excited by being behind the scenes. Tiffany showed us photos of her kiddies dressed up in the most adorable 1920s style outfits! Because we are a family owned business, connecting with our customers on a personal level means a lot.

Layla Grayce: What is your name, title, and how long have you been with Newport Cottages?
Pockets Alvarez: 
I’m Pockets Alvarez, the Founder and CEO of Newport Cottages. My wife and I founded the company in 1999. We’re now in our 15th year and still love what we do

LG: When and why did you decide to showcase your brand on Layla Grayce?
PA: We met Layla Grayce co-founders Wendy and Tiffany when they first launched Layla Grayce 10 years ago. We were so impressed by their big dreams and their energetic entrepreneurial spirit. From the beginning, we noticed that Layla Grayce was focused on quality products and striving for top-notch customer service. It was definitely something we wanted to be a part of.

LG: How has your brand and its style/offerings changed over the years?
PA: Newport Cottages was created from a desire to offer artisan crafted, USA-made furniture. Our first collections were designed with a very traditional, coastal cottage feel: hand-turned posts, inlaid panels, and bead-board designs. Over the years, our collections have evolved to include some transitional and contemporary designs. However, we remain true to the founding principles of quality hardwood construction and continue to manufacture right here in Southern California.

LG:  Where do you see your brand 10 years from now?
PA: 
I see Newport Cottages expanding into other rooms of the home, beyond providing great furniture for nurseries and children’s rooms. We would also include accent pieces, occasional tables, and other furnishings made with the same handcrafted, USA-made quality for which we are known. Our pieces are currently distributed throughout the USA and in select countries abroad. I would love to be able to offer our furniture to more countries around the world.

LG: What is your favorite memory working with Layla Grayce over the past 10 years?
PA: We have so many great memories with Layla Grayce, but perhaps what stands out the most is the time we first met and comparing that time to where we all are now. We have seen our families grow with the addition of babies. We’ve shared stories of our children, while at the same time finding the energy and strength to grow our businesses together. The past 10 years have been my favorite memory so far, and I look forward to another 10.
