Nursery design is second nature to Layla Grayce founder/co-owner Wendy Estes, mom to four beautiful kids. For today’s nursery inspiration, Wendy channeled her interior design prowess and sifted through her favorite kids’ furniture and accessories on Layla Grayce. The result? A refreshing take on nursery design that any new parent will love! Stylish changer and crib that converts to a toddler bed? Check. Coordinating kids’ art? Check. Luxe lighting you can use in any room in the house? Check. With functional furnishings and splashy citrus accents, this nursery design has it all.

Many of us at Layla Grayce are mommies, so we understand the importance of a beautiful yet functional nursery! Whether your style is traditional, modern, or somewhere in between, choose the right furnishings and accessories to create a space where you enjoy getting to know your little one.

Is your taste traditional? Choose an elegant crib, ruffled bedding, and a crystal chandelier to cast a warm, enchanting glow. More on the modern side? Pair clean-lined furnishings with a graphic rug and bright accessories for big impact, while a whimsical bookcase will add just the right amount of fun! Somewhere in between traditional and modern? Look for furnishings that combine curves with straight lines for a transitional look–and focus on interesting textures and a pared-down color palette for a space that feels classic yet fresh.

Moroccan Stencil for Nursery Walls
Get the look: Large Rabat Moroccan Stencil, Sherwin Williams Paint: Hopeful, Interesting Aqua, Amour Pink
Featured on: Project Nursery Designed by: Emily K Paperie

A Moroccan Stencil and a few cans of paint can create a stunning nursery accent wall that transitions perfectly as your little one grows up. Two different shades of pink keep this fun design sophisticated and chic.

Grey Chevron Stripes for Nursery
Get the Look: How-to tutorial, Sherwin Williams Paint: Uncertain Grey, Extra White Designed by: Nadia of House 36

Chevron designs are everywhere these days – from rugs to pillows to walls, and for good reason. This classic pattern looks great in just about any color, but we adore how the grey used here works as a neutral. To create your own chevron nursery wall, get your painter’s tape ready and head over to House 36 for Nadia’s Chevron how-to tutorial.

Oversized Letters for Baby Nursery Walls
Get the look: Benjamin Moore Paint: Blue Heather, Silver Mist, Silver Cloud Featured on: A List Baby

Although putting baby’s name on the nursery wall isn’t a new idea, we LOVE the modern twist these Oversized Letters add! Vary the size of your lettering and mix paint finishes (gloss, flat and semi-gloss) to add visual interest, sticking to a monochromatic color palette to keep the finished result simple and soothing. Create the oversize letters out of rigid paper, taping them to the wall to achieve the desired layout. Lightly trace around the edges to create outlines, remove the guide letters and paint inside the lines.

Striped Ceiling on Nursery by Domino Editor
Get the look: Benjamin Moore Paint: Yolk, White Wisp Featured on: Brides, originally seen in Domino

Make a bold statement with bright Ceiling Stripes, taking inspiration from the nursery of J. Crew Creative Director Jenna Lyons’ son, Beckett. Color doesn’t have to be limited to walls, and stripes overhead give baby something captivating to look at from the crib. If high contrast brights are not your thing, go tonal or pair two neutral colors together to create a unique room for all ages.

From a simple tweet to a nursery complete, Project Nursery Fabulous began with two designers and a twitter conversation and ended with this gorg nursery featured on HGTV Canada. Expecting her first girl after 2 boys, designer Gretchen Aubuchon joined forces with Meredith Heron (whom she met on Twitter) to transform her nursery from baby boy blue to pretty in pink. Turquoise sprinkled throughout the room offered a twist on the traditional while bold honeysuckle grasscloth walls pop with color contrasting the Bungalow 5 bookcases. We added our Layla Grayce touch with crisp white New Arrivals crib bedding and a fun Dash and Albert leopard pink rug that will grow with baby from nursery to tween. Our Malibu chandy proved a showstopper in the room with its turquoise strung beads and hemp detail getting almost as many oohs and ahhs as sweet baby Lucy, the most fabulous part of this project nursery.

“What color is your nursery?” is a common question heard by expectant mothers. House of Wentworth design blogger Amy Lambert Lee steered clear of color and created a sassy yet classy space to welcome her newborn daughter. Mirror adds a touch of glam to the room in the form of a changer/dresser and used as wall décor hung over the crib, while a romantic crib and button-tufted chair ooze traditional femininity. It’s a look we couldn’t resist building from our favorites in design, playing up the hint of linen against soothing white and matching the glam with our own mirrored pieces and chandelier.

They’ve always been a step ahead in bringing modern design to the nursery, but Nurseryworks proves themselves a true pioneer with their new Vetro crib. We see strong design possibilities in its clear, non-toxic and recycleable lucite construction, particularly when used with just the mattress against a patterned wall. Its statement-making style is aptly named for Charles Hollis Jones, an artist who paved the way for use of lucite and acrylic in upscale furniture. Should your modern taste lean a little more traditional, we love how Nurseryworks unique designs in bookcases, rockers and dressers work outside of the nursery, clearly adding a modern cool vibe to other rooms in your home. Giveaway & Guest Blog – New Arrivals

New Arrivals giveaway
New Arrivals

Tori Swaim, founder of New Arrivals, applies her artful designs to bring whimsy and personality to traditional accessories for nurseries and children’s rooms. Her eye for texture and pattern give a cottage style, flea market charm to table and chairs sets, framed hanging letters and more (we’re loving her distressed wooden blocks that feature a different painted pattern for each letter). Tori tells us how a simple project for her daughter’s nursery has blossomed into a vast product line that is a celebrity go-to for outfitting the perfect nursery.

Tell us how New Arrivals came to be
New Arrivals has been a long time in the making. Since childhood I have always loved art and design and been attracted to things that had a soft and simple look from generations past. After my children were born I felt the need to find a creative outlet; a way to channel my inspiration. It started off with a simple decorative baby wipe box for my daughter’s nursery and has evolved over the past 11 years into a broad spectrum nursery decor business. Starting my own company has allowed me to spend more time with my children and to be immersed in all of the things that I love the most. My family, art, design and the creative evolution has made the journey very sweet.

How would you describe your personal style and how does it influence your designs?
I love a white color palette, and tend to prefer neutral color shades. My style is more Modern Vintage with a splash of Shabby Chic. I try to incorporate my love for floral, stripes and old distressed wood pieces into my products.

What trends are catching your eye and how will we see them incorporated in future New Arrivals products?
Although the modern look has become a popular theme for nurseries, we still have many customers who love vintage style. It is amazing how many different looks we create everyday for our customers with our custom bedding line.

Let’s get to know Tori a little better with a “quick-fire” round of questions:

  • Blogs I check daily: Project Nursery and Shabby Chic
  • My first job was: Movie Theatre Candy Girl
  • My favorite color is: Pink!
  • I cannot live without: Sweets
  • My favorite guilty pleasure is: Oreos
  • The best advice I ever received is: Family first (advice from my husband!)
  • A cause I care deeply about is: Fighting child abuse. We support the Childhelp Organization which focuses on the prevention and treatment of child abuse.

It’s giveaway time: Like it? Win it! Tori is generously offering two lucky winners the letter blocks shown above personalized with the name of their choice. Choose from pink, blue, green or chocolate – or a mix of your favorite colors! To enter, leave a comment here or on our Facebook page telling us your favorite name and why it is so special to you. Contest ends at 6pm EDT on Friday, October 22.

Congrats to Wendy L and Charlotte S as the winners this week.
