Cozy, Colorful Midwestern Home: Get The Look

We’re smitten with this cozy Midwestern home’s inviting aesthetic. It’s proof once and for all that white furniture and walls don’t have to be plain. By choosing interesting, personal and colorful accessories, this modern cottage’s neutral foundation pops.

Even in a neutral kitchen and dining room, solid white dishware can make a bold statement. The cohesive collection of pitchers, bowls and plates makes us think of vintage farmhouse table settings and intimate family dinners. In the little girl’s bedroom and the office, as in the living room, bright accents remain top priority for the homeowner. To steal this idea, toss contemporary throw pillows on the bed in splashy shades of orange, pink and green.

If we didn’t already want to move in with this family, we definitely did when we snuck a peek at the master bedroom. This space delivers a comfortable, serene and feminine answer to our bedroom dreams with a sleek four-poster bed, airy canopy sheers and a luxurious country-chic quilt. A modern orange vanity chair and bright accessories offer just the right amount of continuity with the rest of the home.

Colorful Spring Get The Look

To all of us at Layla Grayce, the onset of spring means the promise of bright pops of color and sunlight streaming inside, the chance to unabashedly embrace nature motifs and feminine floral accents. And we must say, stylist Kim Timmerman mastered the look with this space, which is both cheery and refreshing.

Below, a bright wall and floral bouquet are all that are needed to add interest to this this simple but striking vignette, no accessories necessary. Taking cues from a floral print featuring shades of coral, pink and green, an eclectic collection of mismatched china in a variety of shapes seem to blend together seamlessly.

One thing that particularly stands out in this space is the masterful mix of patterns. Bright patterned wallpaper in the bedroom doesn’t mean you should stray from pattern elsewhere. Instead, go bold with bright linens, the only rule being to choose patterns in various shades of the same color to prevent a too-busy effect.

Once again, florals steal the show, adding a flirty, feminine vibe to this outdoor space, while the more rustic wood floors, bench and shelving keep things from feeling too “precious” or unlivable. Tying into the rest of the decor, the coral color finds a place in this living area as well, mixing beautifully with pale lavender and pinks.

Got spring fever? Getting the look of this feminine spring-like abode in your own home could just require a few key pieces, a few of which we curated just for you! Not ready to embark on floral wallpaper? Opt for tableware or throw pillows instead. But most importantly, choose pieces you truly love. Here are a few of our favorites:

Get The Look: Revenge

If you watch Revenge, you know that the show’s interior design is practically one of the main characters! Villain Victoria Grayson’s tasteful Hamptons home is so beautiful that it’s easy to overlook her sinister ways—we think you’ll agree that one of television’s most evil characters does have very good taste, indeed.

Stealing the show from Victoria and Conrad in this scene (above) is gorgeous lighting from Oly Studio, including the Serena drum chandelier. Below, in the Grayson Manor conservatory, slipcovered dining chairs and candles casting a warm glow make for a cozy dining area.

In a guest bedroom, two demilune tables topped with aqua lamps flank a bed with a tufted headboard.

In the great room, Victoria sits perched on her throne, a wingback chair featuring a Parisian chic print. The room’s size and high ceilings demand large-scale furnishings, yet despite its size, the great room still feels comfortable thanks to it warm-toned color palette, fireplace with dark wood surround, and fluffy pillowback sofas.

The master bedroom is a study of contrasts, with light walls, dark side tables, a headboard with light fabric and dark wood trim, and light metallic-base lamps donning black shades. The result is sophisticated and elegant, neither too masculine nor too feminine.

Victoria even has her very own potting shed, which embraces sunny seaside style with a spindle desk, shingled walls and skylights. Below, the style in Victoria’s daughter Charlotte’s room is classic but slightly younger and more colorful. We love the color combination of slate blue walls with eggplant purple and mustard yellow accents.
