Skip Hop is renowned for making multi-purpose functional and chic modern diaper bags as well as accessories and decor for baby and children. Meet Skip Hop founder Ellen Diamant as she tells us about how she got started, what inspires her and what her favorite guilty pleasure is!

Tell us how Skip Hop came to be?
When my son was born 9 years ago, the products available to new parents functioned just fine, but they weren’t quite up to speed with our busy NYC urban lifestyle or design aesthetic. The market was wide open and my husband and I focused on creating products for a new generation of parents that were smart, functional AND beautifully designed. We started with our Duo Diaper Bag – the world’s first stroller bag that converted into a shoulder bag – and seven years later we are still at it!

How would you describe your personal style and how does it influence your designs?
My personal design style is very clean, graphic and modern – especially at home. I am also a big fan of the beautiful lines found in Mid-Century modern design. I love products that are great looking and also have an innovative twist – form meets function.

What trends are catching your eye and how will we see them incorporated in future Skip Hop products?
Fashion and home is going in a more organic direction. Severe geometric prints are on their way out and being replaced with designs that are more fluid with a touch of whimsy. You’ll see that in our beautiful new pattern for Studio, coming this fall!
