Q&A with Michelle Koffler, Director of Marketing and Sales
Layla Grayce: What is your name, title, and how long have you been with Bella Notte?
Michelle Koffler: I’m Michelle Koffler, Director of Marketing and Sales. I have worked for Bella Notte for two years and have known the owners for 27 years!
LG: When and why did you decide to showcase your brand on Layla Grayce?
MK: Layla Grayce has carried our line since 2005 (nearly 10 years!). We were drawn to the website overall, the ease of use, and the fact that the luxury experience Layla Grayce provides users closely mirrors the mission of our brand. We also feel the other brands on the site like Ro Sham Beaux and Eloquence harmonize well with Bella Notte. In fact, we share the same customers.
LG: How has your brand and its style/offerings changed over the years?
MK: Bella Notte has always been soft and romantic with a vintage feel. More and more, we are incorporating looks that have a timeless aesthetic, and our colors have really softened as well. With every year, we become more confident and versatile in our manufacturing process to ensure the construction of each piece has more detail, and we are pushing the way we use texture and tone. Our designer Kathleen McCoy began with a background in fashion, so Bella Notte is notably open to translating trends, willing to adapt and try new things, move out the old, and push the boundaries of home textiles while maintaining our signature collections. If we keep the common theme of relaxed luxury and a bit of romance, we find that each new introduction fits seamlessly with the tried and true favorites.
LG: Where do you see your brand 10 years from now?
MK: Bella Notte would like to see more of an International following. Our fabrics are sourced globally which we feel gives the line an adaptable aesthetic that we could see in Paris, Australia, Korea, and beyond. We feel strongly about always providing vintage-inspired heirloom pieces and staying consistent with the quality our customers expect from us. We have retailers that have carried our line for 18 years, and they have been willing to mature with Bella Notte, which we expect to see for years to come.
LG: What is your favorite memory working with Layla Grayce over the past 10 years?
MK: I was able to visit Layla Grayce’s warehouse with our rep, Laurie Larson, before Layla Grayce moved to its current new location. We had a design meeting on the stairwell! I felt a kindred spirit, as Bella Notte is based out of a small warehouse as well, and we pride ourselves in creating a lot out of a little. I was able to talk about upcoming introductions and get feedback from key stakeholders, which always means a lot to me. I was impressed by the knowledge and kindness of the customer service staff and excited by being behind the scenes. Tiffany showed us photos of her kiddies dressed up in the most adorable 1920s style outfits! Because we are a family owned business, connecting with our customers on a personal level means a lot.

Q&A with Peacock Alley founder Mary Ella Gabler
We recently sat down with Peacock Alley founder Mary Ella Gabler to learn about the start of her company, her style inspirations and more! Read below for Mary Ella Gabler’s insight! To shop the entire collection, click here.
Layla Grayce: You founded Peacock Alley in 1973. What’s the backstory?
Mary Ella Gabler: I grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to New York City in the 1960s where I became a stockbroker on Wall Street. I spent five years in NYC before relocating to Dallas, TX and having my two sons (who are now the CEO and VP of Sales & Marketing for Peacock Alley). While visiting NYC, my former roommate and I found a beautiful boudoir pillow in a shop on Madison Avenue, inspiring us to make our own pillows as gifts. Our designs were so well received that we began to consider making it a business. Over a glass of wine at the Waldorf Hotel’s Peacock Alley restaurant, we officially founded Peacock Alley. Since then, the company has grown from pillows to bedding and so much more. I never imagined it would become what it is today.
LG: What is Peacock Alley known for?
MEG: We’re known for basic bedding in whites and neutrals, with a focus on interesting textures and details. We do try to incorporate colors and patterns that coordinate with the neutrals already in our collections. I call it the black dress theory: building on a classic wardrobe with a modern look that’s appropriate for today.
LG: Where do you find inspiration for your new colors and patterns?
MEG: Generally, I draw inspiration from antique linens and fabrics, and certainly books, shows and travel. But I gather most of my inspiration from interacting with customers and retailers, whether it’s about thread counts or how items are laundered.
LG: In your opinion, what are a few of the standout pieces from Peacock Alley currently available on Layla Grayce and why?
MEG: The Emma print was originally intended to coordinate with the Eloise collection, but its small pattern was also designed to blend with bedding customers already own. It also appeals to customers whether they have a king size bed or twin beds for children. With the Penelope, another favorite, we took classic white/ivory bedding and modernized it with texture and trim. The Penelope collection is also versatile and looks great with a quilt or more contemporary linens.
LG: What is the design process like at Peacock Alley?
MEG: It’s a team effort here at Peacock Alley. It’s about relationships within our team, and also with suppliers and customers, to determine what’s best for both Peacock Alley and our customers. We have experts specializing in everything from color and dyes to patterns. From concept to development, it takes about 1.5 to 2 years of back and forth to create the best product possible.
LG: How do you define “luxury”?
MEG: To me, luxury means comfort and enduring, classic beauty. We’re not “fancy” per se, but instead choose to focus on comfort and making our customers’ bedrooms look and feel inviting.
Sometimes a striking print is all you need to tie a room together. Playing up soft, neutral colorways, this Peacock Alley bedding offers an alluring yet timeless damask pattern.
It’s all in the details! Beyond featuring beautiful prints, much of Peacock Alley’s collection showcases quilted textures with fresh, touchable patterns. We love how this bedding’s stitched design adds unexpected visual interest. Love the classic style of Peacock Alley? Explore the entire collection here, and don’t forget to enter our giveaways!

Q&A with Pine Cone Hill and Dash & Albert’s founder Annie Selke
LG: Describe your aesthetic, especially as it relates to spring.
AS: I love textiles, I love color and I love comfort, so when I was conceiving the Pine Cone Hill Spring 2014 collection, I thought about all of those things. This season I wanted the fabrics to be totally touchable, feeling like you had washed them many times already. We pre-washed the majority of the collection in pursuit of the perfect hand. I also wanted all of the pieces to transport you to an unnamed but fabulous island, where the only questions you need to answer are: when do I want to eat, sleep, read and swim today?
LG: What was the main inspiration behind your new collection for Spring 2014?
AS: Light and effortless layers in tantalizing-to-the-touch textures and a fresh and contemporary palette – French blue, coral, platinum and indigo – all punctuated with a dash of hot green.
LG: What three words would you use to describe this collection?
AS: Crisp, comforting & calming.
LG: What are your favorite patterns from this collection and why?
AS: Well, of course I love all of my patterns, but I love the go-with-everything quality of Varana, Varkala and Ramala. And everything coral feels really wonderful and, go figure, on trend!
LG: What patterns/products from PCH (Spring 2014 collection or otherwise) can be found in your office or home?
AS: We ship to our customers first, kind of a family hold-back situation if you will, but on my wish list are the Marina sky quilt, Laundered Linen coral throw and Varana sky duvet cover and shams.
LG: Everyone’s design process is different. Walk us through yours. Once you have an idea for a new pattern or product, what steps do you take before the final product is produced?
AS: I wanted to expand on our Cape Calm collection and envisioned spicing up the predominantly blue palette with coral and acid green. I wanted a grouping that included quilts, duvet covers and accessories that would be effortlessly livable and easy to layer in a single or mixed combination of colors.
LG: If you could raid anyone’s linen closet, whose would it be and why?
AS: Hmmm, having gotten a peek at two of Bunny Williams’ linen closets , I would have to grab those. And I am already blessed to have the benefit of my mother’s expertly curated collection of linens.
Looking for a seasonal escape? Transport your bedroom’s style with the Cape Calm collection! Mixing spring hues with coastal-inspired graphic patterns, this soothing line exudes tranquil, seaside style.
Gorgeous graphic prints lend an eye-catching twist to this season’s pastel palette. Beautiful Indian-inspired bedding mesmerizes with stunning diamond patterns, while plush throw pillows add make an instant statement on a sofa or bed.
