Mothers & More Diaper Drive!

Help Mothers & More celebrate its 14th Annual Mother’s Day Campaign with the “We Could All Use a Little Change” Diaper Drive. Each donation benefits the National Diaper Bank Network (NBDN) and its member diaper banks throughout the country! Nearly one-third of poor and low-income mothers in the U.S. face the daily struggle of not having enough diapers to keep her baby clean, dry and healthy. Layla Grayce is proud to help support these struggling moms and spread the word about the Mothers & More Diaper Drive.

Through May 31, Mothers & More chapters across the country will hold diaper drives at a wide variety of community events. To find a local Mothers & More chapter, please visit www.MothersAndMore.org. You can also donate via Crowdrise

Kate Landers here to share with you a perfect cake for your next spring celebration! A hot trend in cakes right now (that looks like it is here to stay) is “naked cakes.” What is normally covered by layers of buttercream and fondant is completely exposed on a “naked cake.” That’s right: these cakes allow the actual layers of cake and filling to take center stage. Often these cakes are topped with gorgeous fruit, flowers or other natural elements.

Here are a few suggestions to create your own beautiful “naked cake” sure to elicit “oohs” and “aahs” from your guests!

The Cake: Natural-colored cakes like vanilla, lemon or carrot are very popular for “naked cakes”. As long as you stack even layers of cake, it really is not hard to create one on your own! I chose vanilla cake for ours. A special note: Because the cake is exposed to air and not protected by a layer of frosting, it will dry out much faster. I suggest serving within 24 hours (at most) of completing your cake.

The Filling: Natural-colored buttercream (such as vanilla or chocolate) is highly popular, as well as lemon curd, raspberry and other fruits. While you can certainly create beading or rosettes with buttercream, a messier look often seems preferred. It is part of the appeal of these “perfectly imperfect” cakes. It also makes the cakes easier for you to make on your own.

The Decorations: From herbs and flowers to berries and tree fruits, there is so much variation to make your “naked cake” unique. You can incorporate flavors, colors and flowers to match the theme of your event.

We selected the Pantone Color of the Year “Radiant Orchid” as inspiration for our cake’s decoration. Toned down to pastel hues, it seemed perfect for a lovely spring celebration like Easter, Mother’s Day or a special graduation. From sweet peas and hyacinth to lilacs and peonies, blooms of the moment made it ideal for this time of year.

Playful prints and rich textures lend dimensional depth to the home’s subtle color scheme. The nursery’s chic shag rug offers a cool, funky contrast to the room’s molded wall panels, while a black ostrich wallpaper pattern makes a show-stopping statement in the foyer.

We’re captivated by their use of a room’s existing natural light and architecture, like the large windows and striking marble fireplace in these spaces. The charming and peaceful nooks are dressed with glamorous mirrored surfaces for added light, while pastel wall colors, throw pillows and curtain panels invite a soothing and feminine aesthetic.

Bear-Hill Interiors often beautifully combines classic and modern design inspiration. In this living room, green walls, a sunburst mirror and contemporary throw pillows balance the formality of the room’s stately mantel and traditional furniture arrangement.

At first glance, this living room exudes traditional style with antique-inspired furniture and formal architecture. Yet the designers took this muted, classic look and gave it an eclectic update with abstract artwork, light-reflecting modern mirrors and bright blue upholstery and accessories.

A monotone palette runs the risk of feeling either staid or even overwhelming if its a strong shade, but this striking gold sitting room is neither. Perfectly balanced in a variety of golden hues, the formal living area is inviting and sophisticated versus off-putting.

In this bedroom, the designers fused minimalism with bright, graphic prints. The headboard’s simple geometric design and the room’s overall neutral color palette are given a bold facelift with vibrant throw accessories and a shimmering mirrored nightstand.

White Victorian Living Room

This Northern California home captures the essence of elegant coastal style. The owners of the Marin County weekend retreat embraced the natural aesthetic of an ocean setting while also incorporating antique-inspired pieces.

White and Burlap Living Room

Each room of the home combines the rustic look of the Pacific coast with sophisticated French-influenced furnishings, fabrics and decor. If not complemented correctly, the living room’s high ceilings and paneled, white wood walls may have felt stark, but linen-upholstered chairs and a plush Berber rug create warmth through rich texture and inviting comfort.

With views of the ocean from every window, each room offers the chance to re-imagine traditional nautical style. The guest bathroom’s brass porthole, blue and white striped towels and metallic lockers offer a glamorous take on a ship’s design.
